Building Workplace Relationships Establishing good working relationships in the workplace isn’t always easy. It’s even more of a challenge if you are new to the organization or the quiet type. What I have found to be effective is discovering something that you may have in common. You can use ask these questions to learn even more about your peers and subordinates. Schedule a 1:1 meeting (call it a Join-up, if you are new). Discussing these topics can help you both feel more comfortable working together.

What is your guilty pleasure?
What are your pet peeves?
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
What skills do you hope to improve?
How would your friends or family describe you?
What's something you want to learn more about?

What's something you've always wanted to try?
What are you passionate about?
Do you have any secret skills or talents?
